Chrome v144 freezing on Windows 11

Chrome was persistently locking up for me after a weekend away. That’s not good.

Opening a new Chrome app session would open the initial first tab but any subsquent action would lock up and the Chrome app (any all browser tabs) would freeze. Re-opening Chrome would not resolve this. This is on Windows 11 Pro with the latest Windows Updates and latest Chrome app installed.

Here’s the fix:

  1. Open the Chrome browser app
  2. In the URL bar enter chrome://flags to open the Chrome Experiments screen
  3. Within the Search flags search box enter quic
  4. Set the Experimental QUIC protocol dropdown option to Disabled
  5. At the bottom of the screen click the Relaunch button to open a new Chrome app session

That’s it!
